The cross country season is winding down and the team competed at the Woodland Conference meet last week.
The Panthers had a huge night with 25 of the 35 runners running personal best times. The boys team came in 3rd place and the girls team 4th in the west division. The boys JV team came in 3rd place.
Sophomore Addie Patnaude earned 3rd team in all conference honors and junior Trinity Christenson also earned 3rd team. Junior Nolan Wozniak and sophomore Sebastian Langenfeld earned 2nd team.
“I was really proud of how the team did. Everyone worked really hard throughout the season and we had a lot of PRs,” junior Max Vitrano said.
Langenfeld really enjoys being on the team. ”I run cross country because running is something I enjoy and it’s become part of my daily routine in the past year. I like the team aspect of it as well as the individual aspect because it allows me to take fault and improve on myself if I do badly in a race.”¨
His goal for the rest of the season is to break 17:00 in the 5k race and make it to state.
The cross country team has a made strong connection with their teammates. “They are very supportive while racing and at practice if someone’s having a bad day they’ll pick you up,” junior Carly Antczak said.
The cross country team had a lot of runners that have stepped up and improved this year. ¨The season has been a little up and down. A couple of meets had
really hot and humid air which is not great for runners,” coach Corey Binnebose said. “At Westosha Central we had
our best meet by far. The Girls team was 1st of 14 teams, and the Boys team was 2nd. Addie Patneaude and T
rinity Christenson have been our usual 1-2 team finishers. They run side by side nearly the whole race. Sebastian Langenfeld and Nolan Wozniak have run side by side during most races to be our 1-2 team finishers”.
The team runs at various courses, and most agree that the hardest race is Parkside. ”Parkside was the hardest race out of the whole season because it was really hilly and it had to be the hottest race of the season,” Patnaude said.
The Cross Country team is hoping to do well at Sectionals. ¨We can d do better. We had a big senior loss so we are working hard to step it up,” Wozniak said.
