Greendale softball is starting their exciting 2026 season. Already they have been dealing with lots of challenges. One of which is the terrible weather that has caused bad field conditions and lots of game cancellations.
“The rain has impacted our season by cancelling three games so far, which sucks since we have to make them up as double headers,” senior Lyla Gibson said.
With all of their time off they have had, lots of time as a team to create goals for not only themselves, but for the entire team to ensure a successful season.
“Some of those personal goals include improving my batting average and becoming more of a leader to the team. I love having those leader skills just because they are useful outside of the sport,” junior Brooke Hart said. “But some of my team goals include leading the team. I always strive to help my teammates in the middle of a game. I personally think it’s more important to help lead and help people improve mentally because that is a huge part of the game that fans don’t see.”
These goals have helped Greendale bring home a few wins. Though it is still early in the season, as of April 27, the team has a record of 9-2-1.
The team has a lot of games and tournaments coming up that they are most definitely looking forward to.
“I’m really looking forward to our senior night game on May 18,” senior Aubrey Cook said.
The girls has made so many great memories so far. They enjoy being together and playing in tournaments together. They love fun bonding activities that come along with it.
“The Sheboygan tournament was my favorite. We went 4-0. It’s always a fun trip because we go to a team dinner and we played really well,” junior Ayla Krecklow said.
One of the best things about Greendale softball is the amazing leadership opportunities. They have great team captains who are committed to leading the team in great ways.
“My favorite part about being a captain is being able to uplift and encourage the team and also being able to set a good example for the underclassmen,” Cook said.
Luckily, the season has been going great. The team is so excited to continue the season and be very successful.
“We are doing really well. The team is working together really well. We all have each other’s backs,” Krecklow said.
