Greendale girls basketball season is halfway done and they have a current record of 4-8.
The team started the year off with a win against Franklin 57-53 which gave them confidence for the season, and they have been getting the right amount of practice and training they need.
The girls work hard and have their strengths and weaknesses for this year’s competition. “We all play as a good team and try to make each other happy when we are not feeling the best,” senior Ashawnti Strong said. “But we do really need to collectively work on our communication on the court and to bring our motivation up a bit more.”
The team has collectively improved from the past couple of seasons, with better skills, scores, and hustle.
Things have gotten way better this year, as there is more connection the girls have.
“It’s more of a positive environment,” sophomore Megis Albeni said. “Since last season we all would get really frustrated with each other and couldn’t have fun.”
Over the years, the girls basketball team’s numbers have declined But this year more girls tried out for the team.
“I’m most excited about there actually being a JV,” sophomore Greta Dombrowski said. “It really shows the basketball interest is increasing and now we have a bigger program for all of us girls to have more opportunities.”
Recently, the girls lost to New Berlin Eisenhower 53-67 on Jan 10 and on Jan 14 they lost to Muskego 31-65. Junior Tatianna Edwards is leading the team in scoring with 13 points a game, and junior Macy St. Lawrence leads the team in rebounds with an average of 7 per game.
“In my opinion the best game the team played was against Martin Luther. I think as a team we played well,” Edwards said. “I’m excited because we had a really good close game and won.
