Students at Greendale High School volunteered on Nov.19 to donate blood in the upper gym. This occurred for the majority of the day for the students and select teachers. Snacks and refreshments were available for the students donating, and some students volunteered to pass out snacks and check people in during their study halls and open hours.
Students decided to volunteer to give blood to the blood bank, which then gets processed, and if they pass all the tests, then they get transferred to a patient in need. Many students have donated many times, and for some, it has been the first time.
“I donated blood sophomore year, and this is my second time donating,” senior Ana Sebez said. “I wanted to help the less fortunate people, and I want to go into the medical field, so it’s a good thing to know about.”
After donating blood, it’s always important to stay hydrated and have food in your system. Students have many different ways of relaxing.
“My favorite way to relax after giving blood is listening to music and eating all the snacks that they provide for us,” junior Dana Flink said.
Lots of students have donated more than once, and they like doing it to help people out. Some students have done it only once, and they don’t want to do it again.
“Yes, I would donate again because it helps people and I want to help people out,” senior Deacon Ward said.
Students donate for numerous reasons. Some do it just to help, or they do it because they get influenced to do it.
“My mom told me to do it, and a decent amount of my friends were also doing it, so it influenced me to donate,” senior Sean Libal said.
Students donating help out so many people. Of course, the blood must go through testing, and the blood must pass all the tests, but every single person receiving the blood thanks all the students for donating and helping.
