Finals are finally over, and now it’s time for a fresh start. Students have many different opinions about their new semester classes; some love their new schedule, and others wish they could go back to their old one. Freshman started their first and second semester in high school and seniors just started their last semester ever.
Going into your junior and senior year, a release is an option for any hour you have a study hall; some people choose to go to a study hall instead of having a release. But the real question is, should you take the study hall, and do seniors have the best advice for this situation?
“I think you should definitely take a release because it’s a good break in your day and can get away from school and let your brain rest,” senior Eden Schuk said.
All teachers have different tactics to prepare themselves and students for a fresh start.
“I try to give them an overview of the class, and if they just randomly signed up to close a gap in their schedule and don’t like my class, I tell them to just drop,” business teacher Mary Guida said.
Some students have just started their first year and are going into their second semester with many different opinions. Some classes were harder than others, and some students didn’t expect that.
“AAT was much harder than I thought it would be,” sophomore Gavin Jaklich said. “The teacher was really good, but the work is much harder than my freshman year, and I’m doing junior math as a sophomore.”
Some students want to change a lot of things they did last semester into this semester.
“I really want to do better in College Algebra cause that class really confuses me,” junior Rylee McDonald said.
Some students love their new schedule.
“I am happy with my end-of-semester classes because I have a lot of friends in my classes and I’m taking classes that are focused on my future,” senior Ella Padron said.
Starting a new semester means that teachers have a lot to do as well. New presentations, new units, and new plans for the class. As well as guidance counselors, this is the busiest time for them because students tend to not to be happy with their semester schedule.
“The least favorite part is the amount of schedule changes for sure,” Guidance Counselor Christopher Muench said. “Some changes are legit, but we get a lot of requests to change classes for the wrong reasons.”
