Varsity Greendale baseball has recently just wrapped up their regular season with a 14-14 record securing a 5th seed in the playoffs. The last two regular season games did not go as planned as they played Nathan Hale and South Milwaukee, losing both but they still played very well.
As they step into the playoffs, they know every game matters and it is win or go home. With this mindset, players know what may come to an end during their playoff run. “The thing I’m going to miss the most when the season ends is probably the seniors. Knowing it’s playoffs already and knowing it’s going to be the last time I step on a field with some of them, it sucks and for sure going to miss all of them,” junior Cameron Bueno said.
The Panthers first playoff game was against Milwaukee Pulaski as they were the 12th seed. Greendale came into this game with nothing to lose, and everything to win, and took care of business, winning 20-1 in the first round.
In the second round, the Panthers knew they would face a tougher team in Kenosha Tremper as they were a 5 seed. Greendale left it all on the field but just wasn’t enough to walk out with the win as they would lose 9-0. Bauer led the offense going 1-2 with a single and a walk Bueno also collected a hit.
Now with the season ending, players look back on one thing they will miss not being able to play baseball again until next season or for the seniors, never Panthers baseball again. “I’m going to miss the younger players on the team because they were a lot of fun to hang out with and play with,” senior Alin Ademi said.
For the younger guys on the team, they reflect on what the team could have done better this season and apply it to next season to be more successful. “One thing that could’ve been better is our offense because it was very inconsistent and we hope to improve that next season,” junior Luke Mattes said.
Some of the seniors reflected on their careers as Panthers and shared some of their favorite memories as a Greendale Panther, “My favorite memory from Greendale baseball was the trip to state. One of the best moments that happens every year is when we play Pewaukee because of the atmosphere and the fact that when it comes to baseball we don’t like each other so those games are always the most competitive,” senior Jack Bauer said.
