There were a lot of good College Football matchups the weekend of Nov 15, with some lots of great performances, big comebacks, blowouts, and upsets.
One of the biggest games of the weekend was the Oklahoma Sooners at the Alabama Crimson Tide, which ended in a win for the #11 ranked Sooners 23-21. This win marks the second year in a row that Alabama has lost to the Sooners while being ranked higher.
“I watched that Bama game,” freshman Charlie Weber said. “I can’t believe they lost at home again. They shouldn’t be losing in such a close game like that at home.”
The CFB game of the week was the #10 ranked Texas Longhorns at the #5 ranked Georgia Bulldogs, where the Bulldogs came out with a dominant win over the Longhorns 35-10. The Longhorns QB Arch Manning, who is the nephew of Peyton and Eli Manning, had another weak performance, not living up to expectations.
“Arch Manning has been pretty good despite some bad performances,” Weber said. “He just needs to stop folding under pressure, that Longhorns team is so good to not be top 10 ranked at least.”
The #3 ranked Texas A&M Aggies came back to win 31-30 after being down 30-3, scoring 28 unanswered points against the unranked South Carolina Gamecocks to keep their undefeated season alive. They were fueled by holding the Gamecocks to 76 yards the whole 2nd half and A&M getting 298 passing yards from their QB Marcel Reed.
The #1 ranked Ohio State Buckeyes continued their dominance, winning 48-10 against the unranked UCLA Bruins. The Buckeyes were fueled by their Heisman candidates Julian Sayin QB and Jerimiah Smith WR, who made an insane one handed grab to help them get to field goal range again. Sayin passed for 184 yards, but they were fully fueled by 4 rushing touchdowns combined from 3 of their RBs.
“Ohio State are the New England Patriots of college football,” junior Hunter Isotalo said. “What I mean by that is they are pretty good but their schedule is pretty easy and their closest game was 14-7 game one of the season VS the Longhorns, but other than that all their games are blowouts.”
The #2 ranked Indiana Hoosiers had another dominating win this season keeping their reign of winning intact. They beat the Wisconsin Badgers 31-7 fueled by their Heisman front runner Fernando Mendoza QB, who went 22-24 with 299 passing yards and 4 touchdowns through the air. The Hoosiers keep their undefeated season alive and hope to go on and win next week against the Purdue Boilermakers.
“I think Fernando Mendoza is the QB in CFB this year and it’s not close,” Isotalo said. “He has just been going crazy and he is coming up clutch when Indiana needs him to. I think he will go top three in the NFL draft, and I think Indiana has a big chance this year, but their only hard opponent would be Ohio State in the Big Ten championship.”
The Badgers are on to their fourth QB this year, and after beating #23 ranked Washington Huskies the week before, their leading passer that game was their punter Sean West, who had 24 passing yards off of one pass the whole game.
The weekend of Nov 15th was a very eventful one for college football fans, with blowouts, upsets, and comebacks all of the top 3 ranked teams stayed undefeated and will keep their streak until next week.
