The college football transfer portal is under way and there have been many surprising transfers. The portal is open from Jan 2 to the 16 and players enter to get a fresh start for the season and hope to improve playing time.
One of the top stories involves Penn State, they fired their coach mid season and brought in head coach Matt Campbell from Iowa State. After that, a staggering 19 players have now transferred from Iowa St to Penn state such as starting QB Rocco Becht and Carsen Hansen.
“It’s crazy that Iowa State is losing this many players because of a coaching change,” junior Micheal Immel said. “They might be one of the worst teams in CFB this year while Penn State is gonna be really good.”
Another transfer is WR Cam Coleman who is transferring from Auburn to Texas. He was one of the best players in the portal and one of the best WR’s in college football. He had 56 catches this season with 708 yards and 5 touchdowns and will be a big addition to the Long Horns.
Another star player transferring to LSU is Sam Levitt previously at Arizona State. Levitt was a big part of their playoff run in 2024 and helped lead them to a 8-5 record this season. Levitt threw for 1600 yards and 10 touchdowns while throwing only 3 interceptions.
Wisconsin has 17 players transferring this season but they have brought in around 20 players. Including some big names like QB Colton Joseph out of Old Dominion. Joseph threw for 2624 yards and 21 touchdowns. Another big name is safety Marvin Burks Jr. out of Missouri.
“I think Wisconsin will have a bounce back season,” sophomore Owyn Bunzel said, “They have a way easier schedule and are bringing in some good recruits.””
Texas Tech is having one of the best recruiting classes this year bringing in names like QB Brendan Sorsby out of Cincinnati and WR MalcolmSimmons out of Auburn.
Another big story is Eric Morris leaving North Texas to go to Oklahoma State after they fired their head coach Mike Gundy. With the departure of him tons of players that used to play in North Texas went to Oklahoma State with Eric Morris like QB Drew Mestemaker who is one of the best players in the transfer portal and Caleb Hawkings who is the best running back in the transfer portal.
“It’s unreal how people are transferring to go with the head coach,” sophomore Arjan Gill said. “If they knew it would happen I bet the coaches wouldn’t be fired.”
