March Madness is almost here and there have been many regular season upsets in college basketball.
SMU started 2026 off by upsetting 12th ranked North Carolina 97-83 and Central Florida beat 17th ranked Kansas.
Wisconsin started this year hot by beating number two ranked Michigan, Number 8 ranked Illinois and 10th ranked Michigan State with Nick Boyd averaging 20 points a game to help them win. Wisconsin’s hot streak recently came to an end by getting destroyed by Ohio State 86 to 69, but they bounced back by beating Iowa 84-71
“Wisconsin is so inconsistent,” senior Peter Geittmann said. “They can beat any team but they also could lose to any team.”
After 1st ranked Arizona’s loss to Kansas without star guard Darryn Peterson 82-78, Miami of Ohio is the only undefeated team left with senior guard Peter Suder, who is averaging 15 points a game. Miami of Ohio has 26 wins and is first in the MAC, they have 0 ranked wins which is the reason they are only ranked 22nd in the country.
“I think Miami of Ohio won’t make it to the round of 16,” sophomore Eli Paul said. “They haven’t beaten a ranked team yet and play in one of the worst conferences in basketball.”
Another surprising team is Saint Louis. They are currently ranked 18th and are 24-2 and are first in their conference with senior center Robbie Avila leading the team with 13 points a game.
BYU recently took down 6th ranked Iowa State with star freshman forward AJ Dybansta leading the team with 29 points. Dybansta is averaging 25 points a game and 7 rebounds a game. “Dybansta should be the first pick in the draft,” sophomore Bryce Carlson said “He is one of the best scorers and Darryn Peterson doesn’t deserve it because he doesn’t play enough.”
