NCAA March Madness has begun, and many students like to fill out brackets and to compete with each other. March Madness can get really competitive depending on how seriously people take it. It started last weekend with 68 teams that compete against each other. and now it’s down to 16. Some people make bets with one another and lose, and make money.
“I do lose a lot of money with all of the brackets I make, but most of the time I do better in other ones, so I can come up even or even more,” senior Tyler Roche said.
His experience shows that he does bet a lot with others in March Madness if he has multiple brackets where he loses and makes money. Most people watch all of the March Madness games they can throughout March because it is one of the biggest entertainment events of the month.
“I watch all of the games through March Madness because I have a bracket and I watch the games to see how I do,” senior Spencer Wendlick said.
March Madness can get really interesting. On the first day of March Madness, there were over 9.8 million viewers.
Unfortunately, the #5 Badgers lost in the first round to the #12 High Point University.
“I thought the Wisconsin Badgers would have done better than they did; they were the first loss in my bracket,” senior Charlie Sheridan said.
One of the biggest games that messed up people’s brackets was the 11th seed Texas beating BYU in the round of 64, then another upset in the next round, knocking off #3 Gonzaga, sending them to the sweet 16 for the 15th time in tournament history. This will be a game to remember for the 11# seed Texas.
Another big game was #9 Iowa, who pulled off the biggest upset of the tournament so far in the second round against #1 Florida, winning 73-72 with help from a go-ahead 3-pointer with seconds remaining from Forward Alvaro Folgueiras.
