When the NFL offseason hits, it brings some chaos. The coaching carousel and players moving around shakes up the league and can change the fate of many teams, for fortune or for failure. The 2026 offseason has been an odd one with many strange things and big moves happening.
One of the biggest stories over the off season was the fiasco with Las Vegas Raiders star defensive end, Maxx Crosby. He was initially traded in early March to the Baltimore Ravens. When players get traded, complete the trade, they have to pass a physical. Maxx Crosby didn’t. One of the few times in NFL history when a trade was called off, due to a failed physical. Now he remains a Las Vegas Raider, but amid tensions there is a likely chance that Crosby gets released.
“It was crazy watching it over the week,” senior Ahmed Gamar said. “I never seen anything like that. I’m interested in what the Raiders are going to do now. I think personally that they’re going to release him now.”
A lot of teams got better in the offseason, some teams made some big acquisitions
“The biggest winner was the (Baltimore) Ravens,” Gamar said. “They got the old Bengals D-End (Trey Hendrickson). The (Los Angeles) Rams had a good offseason too because they got two defensive backs from the Chiefs, Jaylen Watson and Trent McDuffie.”
The hometown team had some departures around the roster over the off season. Notable players, receiver Romeo Doubs, linebacker Quay Walker and controversial defensive tackle Rashan Gary are among the group.
“I’m glad that Rashan is gone,” junior Antonio Hodges said. “He didn’t have any effort and he made me mad watching. But I wish Romeo Doubs stayed. He was good and I thought he would be a part of the Packers for a long time. He was good when he played most of the time. Quay Walker was good too and it’s going to be hard without him.”
There are some new arrivals on the team to help bolster the lineup and hopefully get the Pack back to the Super Bowl for the first time since 2011.
“They (Packers) made some good pickups that I think people are underrating,” sophomore Elijah Paul said. “I think Zaire Franklin is going to be good for them and help the linebacking core. He’s better than Quay Walker but not that many people know about him because he was on a mid Colts team. Skyy Moore is alright but not better than Doubs and that is going to be a big hit to the Packers. Best case is that it turns out like a Rasheed Rice situation in Seattle and he does alright.”
There has been a lot of news and controversy to happen in this off season. It looks to be an interesting year in the NFL with many storylines happening. It will be interesting to watch how the season unfolds with all these moves.
